One of the most basic plumbing repairs that every homeowner has to deal with is unclogging drains. While some drain clogs may be severe enough that calling a professional plumber may be required, many clogged drains can be fixed by the homeowner. Here are a few plumbing Kingwood basics.
Plumbing Repair: Clogged Drains
If the drain is slow moving but not completely clogged, try running extremely hot water down the drain to see if it will clear out the blockage.
If the drain is still clogged, next try pouring a commercial drain cleaner down the drain. Wait 10 to 20 minutes for the solution to work and then flush the pipes with hot water.
If the clog still has not budged, more drastic measures are required. If the clog is closer the beginning of the pipe, using a plunger to attempt to suction the clog out of the pipe. If there is a strainer on the drain, remove that first before placing the plunger firmly around the drain opening, making sure that there is no air leaks before plunging. If the clog is dislodged, once again flush the drain with hot water.
If none of these methods work, the next step is to remove the pipe to remove the clog. It may be wise to call a plumber to do the plumbing repair.
